Architect of ACA Repeal Who Lost Re-Election Endorses Corrupt Businessman Who Supports ACA Repeal

Self-Serving Multi-Millionaire Tom MacArthur Throws Support Behind Self-Serving Multi-Millionaire Shady Businessman David Richter

Corrupt and self-serving businessman David Richter announced today that he has received the endorsement of self-serving failed former Congressman Tom MacArthur.

You’ll recall, Tom MacArthur lost his re-election bid in 2018 after becoming the chief architect of legislation designed to gut pre-existing condition protections, impose an age taxincrease deductibles and out-of-pocket costs, all while doing nothing to lower the price of prescription drugs. Had he been successful, MacArthur’s bill would have resulted in nearly 30,000 of his own constituents (the same ones Richter claims to want to represent) losing their health care coverage. The AARP even wrote that the “MacArthur Amendment” made “the legislation even more harmful for older consumers” and people with pre-existing conditions.

Time and time again, voters have named accessible, affordable health care as the number one issue keeping them up at night, but Richter bragged about MacArthur’s endorsement. Perhaps he’s found a kindred spirit in the failed Congressman or maybe he’s grateful that his previously donated $3,900 to MacArthur is being paid back, but this endorsement seems particularly toxic.

MacArthur spent his time in Congress looking out for himself, his rich donors and special interests. Richter, a rubberstamp for the most reckless of Washington Republicans’ agenda like stripping millions of American of their health care during a pandemic and blocking efforts to lower the costs of prescription drugs, will do the same. One reporter noted Richter holds the “classic Republican position” on health care: opposing the ACA.

“Corrupt and shady businessman David Richter is reveling in the endorsement of failed former Congressman Tom MacArthur who lost his re-election bid after authoring a bill to gut health care for nearly 30,000 voters in Ocean and Burlington Counties,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “This tells voters everything they need to know about Richter’s plans in Washington: gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, jack up prices of prescription drugs, and siding with the big drug manufacturers ripping of New Jersey families.”
