Bob Dold and Paul Ryan share views on slashing Medicare, repealing Affordable Care Act
As the House decides on its next Speaker this week, Republican Congressman Bob Dold is expected to continue his pattern of voting with his fellow Republicans when it counts. This pattern includes Dold’s 28 attempts at repealing the health care protections granted all Americans by the Affordable Care Act, his amendment defunding Planned Parenthood clinics for 90 days, and now, his expected support for Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House.
Paul Ryan, the architect behind the notorious Ryan Budgets that raised health care costs, turned Medicare into a voucher system, and repealed the Affordable Care Act, has been called “the most conservative” future Speaker of the House.
Ryan even opposes a woman’s right to choose, calling Roe v. Wade a “mistake” and comparing the fight to ban abortion and limit access to reproductive care to the battle to end slavery.
Dold has a history of buddying up to Paul Ryan: they’ve thrown lavish fundraisers together, Ryan added Dold to his list of “Strong Conservatives,” and Dold has gladly returned the favors by supporting the irresponsible cuts in each Ryan Budget.
“Once again, we’re seeing Republican Congressman Bob Dold prioritize his friendships with his party’s leadership over what’s best for his constituents, endorsing the repeated failed policies of Paul Ryan and the rest of the Republican Party,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC. “Bob Dold’s Republican loyalties are clear: Dold is willing to throw Illinois seniors and working families aside in his quest to ingratiate himself with the leaders of his party.”
