“Ciscomani looks like he chose a committee that looks like what somebody who’s never been in the military thinks veterans look like.”
In case you missed it: Arizona veterans are raising concerns over Juan Ciscomani’s recently formed veterans council – noting its stark misalignment with the district’s make-up.
Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District is home to over 70,000 veterans, more than 7,600 of whom are women – but of the 13 members on Ciscomani’s veterans council, only one is a woman. Arizona veterans also say Ciscomani’s council lacks younger, diverse, and enlisted members.
According to one veteran, important issues facing Arizona veterans like sexual assault and abortion, and younger people, such as transition back to civilian life post-9/11 service will likely be left behind due to the makeup of the council.
REMINDER: During his time in Congress, Juan Ciscomani has voted to cut veterans’ health benefits and restrict reproductive health care for Arizona’s veterans and servicemembers.
Ciscomani voted to cut Arizona veterans’ healthcare and benefits – including essential services for struggling veterans, like housing support, food assistance, mental health and substance abuse services, and job training programs.
Ciscomani is a co-sponsor of H.R. 7 – a fervently anti-abortion bill that – if signed into law – would prevent the Department of Veterans Affairs from covering abortion care for veterans.
