Arizonans Are Furious That Juan Ciscomani Broke His Promise to Protect Social Security

“Around 100 people rallied in front of Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s office with signs denouncing the congressman”

Juan Ciscomani is under fire for trying to destroy Social Security.

Roughly 100 Arizonans gathered outside Ciscomani’s office yesterday to protest the vulnerable Republican for going back on his word to protect Social Security.

Despite repeatedly promising to protect Social Security on the campaign trail, Ciscomani went back on his word and voted for the Big, Ugly Law – which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently boasted includes a scheme that’s a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.” The new law is also going to make Social Security run out of money faster, putting Arizonans’ hard-earned benefits at risk.

And of course, Ciscomani sat idly by while Elon Musk gutted Social Security – a plan that has since led to a 20% reduction in staff.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Juan Ciscomani is just another slick D.C. politician who thinks he can distract Arizonans with lofty statements and photo ops while he votes to undermine Social Security, kick millions off their health care, and take food out of hungry kids’ mouths. Arizonans are smarter than Ciscomani gives them credit for, and they’ll hold him accountable next November.”

See for yourself:

  • Around 100 people rallied in front of Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s office with signs denouncing the congressman.
  • The Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans held a “Silver Sit-In,” in response to Juan Ciscomani’s support of the Big Beautiful Bill, and its cuts to federal programs like Medicaid and Snap benefits.
  • “Without that, they would not have health care, because they don’t have money to pay for health care,” Executive Director for the AARA Dora Vasquez said. “They would not have money to pay utilities and food. And we’re creating a country of poverty by trying to take these programs.”
  • Over 1.5 million people across Arizona rely on some type of federal support program like Medicaid.
  • Tucson seniors are set to post up in protest of Congressman Juan Ciscomani today in defense of Social Security benefits that organizers say are in danger.
  • It’s called the “silver sit-in” and it comes ahead of a national day of action… against the Trump Administration’s cuts to Social Security programs since he’s taken office.
  • Democrats claim the Trump Administration is making the Social Security system difficult to access, with the goal to privatize Social Security and rob it of the trillions of dollars that are currently in the accounts.
  • On the 90th anniversary of Social Security being enacted, seniors in Arizona held “silver sit-ins” at the offices of two GOP congressmen, asking them to ensure the program continues and advocate for policy changes to keep it fully funded.
  • Approximately 69 million Americans receive Social Security benefits each month.
  • Advocates have been alarmed by actions taken by President Donald Trump’s administration, including allowing Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to seek data from the program and baseless claims that millions of dead people are receiving benefits.
  • The “one big, beautiful bill” he backed this year speeds up [Social Security’s] insolvency.
  • Others have pointed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s comments on his “Trump account” proposal as a “backdoor to privatization” for Social Security as evidence that the administration doesn’t intend to save the program.
