Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks Vote Against Protecting the Right to Vote

Vulnerable Republicans Hinson and Miller-Meeks join their party in voting to continue allowing states to enact discriminatory laws that make it harder to vote

Today, Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted against H.R. 4, the landmark John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and strengthen anti-discrimination enforcement authorities in the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As states across the country pass Jim Crow-style voter intimidation and suppression laws, Hinson and Miller-Meeks voted to continue to allow states to restrict access to the ballot box, especially for voters of color, low income voters, seniors, servicemembers, and voters with disabilities.

“Republicans like Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks would rather choose their voters than the other way around,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Instead of actually passing policies that help hard-working families, Hinson and Miller-Meeks once again sided with Washington Republican leaders who are trying to change the rules to keep Iowans from voting.”
