Ashley Hinson’s Agenda: “Fundamental Changes” to Medicaid That Kick Iowans Off Their Health Care

In an interview earlier this week, Ashley Hinson said that there will be “fundamental changes” to Medicaid. 

This comes after Hinson cast the deciding vote for the GOP Tax Scam that slashes Medicaid, jeopardizes health care for more than 26,800 people in IA-02, and raises Iowans’ costs while giving a tax cut to billionaires.
Hinson: “We’re going to make some of these fundamental changes to a legacy program like Medicaid that’s on auto-pilot with spending and prove that the sky won’t fall.”

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith: 
“Ashley Hinson says in her own words that she will make ‘fundamental changes’ to Medicaid, kicking Iowans off their health care. Hinson votes to give tax breaks to billionaires while slashing Iowans’ health care and raising their costs, which is why they’ll reject her next year.”

Reminder of what Hinson’s Medicaid cuts mean for IA-02, according to analysis based on the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) data:

  • 26,886 total people in IA-02 losing health insurance coverage. 
  • 14,486 people in IA-02 losing health insurance coverage provided by Medicaid.
  • 12,400 people in IA-02 losing health insurance coverage provided through the Affordable Care Act due to cuts to ACA enhanced premium tax credits.
