Schweikert Remains Silent as Outrage Grows
Last week, Arizona GOP Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward came under fire when she tweeted, “Planning protest to #ReOpenAmerica? EVERYONE wear scrubs & masks – the media doesn’t care if you are really in healthcare or not – it’s the ‘message’ that matters.”
Yet despite the warranted outrage over her despicable comments, Congressman David Schweikert has remained quiet.
Today, an Arizona Republic column laid out precisely why his silence is so problematic:
“Should health-care workers who disagree with reopening the state before we have the situation better under control be mocked?
The person doing the mocking, in this case, is the head of the state’s Republican Party.
She’s supposed to embody the party’s beliefs and principles.
She’s supposed to speak for the party.
Does she?”
DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer released the following statement:
“Does Congressman David Schweikert agree with Ward’s decision to mock and dismiss health care workers during this global pandemic? Every health care worker and first responder putting their lives on the line each day to help Arizonans deserves an answer.”
