As Derek Merrin and Max Miller’s loyalty to D.C Republicans’ cost-spiking agenda continues to sink their election chances, they’re calling in their favorite trillionaire to bail them out.
New reporting reveals that Elon Musk is pouring about $151,000 into Ohio’s 9th District to prop up Merrin’s campaign and another $122,000 to rescue Max Miller in Ohio’s 7th — a last-ditch effort to save their tanking campaigns. The cash comes as a thank-you for House Republicans handing the ultrawealthy, like Musk, massive tax breaks while Ohio families get stuck with the bill.
This isn’t the first time Musk has tried to buy Merrin a seat in Congress: in 2024, Musk’s super PAC spent almost $170,000 backing Merrin — and Northwest Ohio voters still sent him packing.
REMINDER: Merrin and Miller have always put billionaires and trillionaires ahead of working Ohioans. Merrin backed overwhelmingly unpopular anti-collective bargaining legislation, cosponsored legislation designed to gut union power, and tried to cut paid sick leave for public employees twice. Meanwhile, multimillionaire heir Miller voted to slash health care and food assistance for over 21,000 Ohioans in his own district to pay for billionaire tax cuts.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“Max Miller handed billionaires and trillionaires like Elon Musk massive tax breaks while Ohio families got stuck with the bill, and Derek Merrin is begging for the chance to do the same in Washington. Now Musk is throwing more than a quarter million dollars at a congressman his own party wants gone and a candidate Ohio voters already rejected. Musk couldn’t buy Merrin a seat last time, and next Tuesday, Ohioans will send both of them packing.”
