Today, Colorado Pols reported on a recent interview in which GOP nominee for CO-08, Barbara Kirkmeyer, called for transforming Medicaid to a block grant program which experts call a scheme to “eviscerate the benefits Coloradans need.” She even called for spending less on “entitlement programs,” which includes Social Security.
After opposing reforms to lower prescription drug costs, as Americans navigate out of a deadly pandemic and deal with sky-high drug prices, Barbara Kirkmeyer is proposing a plan that would effectively take away affordable health care from Coloradans and rip away seniors’ hard-earned retirement.
The Kaiser Foundation reported that Kirkmeyer’s proposed plan would “limit the number of people served through priority lists, waiting periods, and by simply closing down enrollment. Individuals generally have no federal right to the services financed through the block grant.”
Coloradans who depend on Medicaid, Social Security, and other earned benefits would be left out to dry by Kirkmeyer’s plan.
DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“Kirkmeyer’s ludacris and cruel call to effectively eliminate Medicaid and Social Security as Coloradans struggle with high costs shows just how out of touch she is. Dr. Yadira Caraveo has spent her career fighting for affordable health care for Coloradans. She will protect Social Security and Medicaid in Congress.”
