Following his vote on the Big, Ugly Bill last week – Nick Begich said that he had “no doubt” about his decision to rip health care away from nearly 40,000 people and kick almost 40,000 Alaskan households off their food assistance.
- “There was no doubt I was going to vote for this bill…when this bill came back from the Senate, I was enthusiastically supporting it, and I told others in the House that this is an important priority for us,” Begich said.
- When asked if he thinks Alaskans could be shielded from the devastating impacts of cuts to Medicaid and SNAP: “Begich implied that the answer is no.”
- When asked about the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate that the bill will increase the federal debt by more than $3.4 trillion, despite campaign promises to cut down on federal spending, Begich said: “well, I think I would dispute that.”
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Nick Begich is shamelessly proud of his vote that will devastate working families, vulnerable children, and seniors across Alaska. When your representative has ‘no doubt’ about ripping health care and food assistance away from tens of thousands, voters have no doubts about replacing him.” |
