Today, thanks to Democrats in Congress, the parents of 341,000 children in TX-23 and TX-24 will receive their first monthly Child Tax Credit payment.
Tony Gonzales and Beth Van Duyne both put politics over the wellbeing of families in their districts when they voted against urgently-needed pandemic relief earlier this year. The rescue legislation has already sent $1,400 checks to working households, helped Texas small businesses reopen, and supported struggling industries like restaurants and music venues.
Now, starting today, monthly Child Tax Credit payments will land in the bank accounts of Texas parents, offering working families a lifeline and securing a stronger future for the nation’s children — and Beth and Tony tried to block every dollar.
The Child Tax Credit benefit will:
- Support 196,400 kids in TX-23 and 144,600 kids in TX-24;
- Provide up to $300 per month per child for children under six years of age;
- Provide up to $250 per month per child for children six to 17 years of age; and
- Help working Americans cover the costs of child care, prepare for the back-to-school season, and get parents back in the workforce, helping American families make ends meet.
“Texans are recovering from a historic crisis — but when Tony Gonzales and Beth Van Duyne had their chance to deliver help to families in their districts and lift thousands of children out of poverty, they voted NO,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Their vote against monthly Child Tax Credit payments shows they couldn’t care less about supporting working parents. We can thank House Democrats for understanding the realities middle-class families face and fighting to ensure everyday Americans were provided with this relief.” |
