Bill Huizenga Votes to Protect Cost-Raising Tariffs

Despite Trump’s sweeping tariffs costing the average American household $1,000 more per year, Huizenga still supports them

Last night, Bill Huizenga voted *again* to shield Donald Trump from Congressional oversight on his sweeping, reckless tariffs that are raising costs for Michiganders.

The pivotal vote comes as a new report from the Tax Foundation found Trump’s tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year. The cost is expected to rise in 2026 to $1,300 if existing tariffs that House Republicans voted on today stay in place.

This isn’t the first time Huizenga voted to rubber stamp Trump’s sweeping tariffs. In September of 2025, Huizenga voted to protect price-hiking tariffs, after doing the same thing in March of 2025. Last night’s vote would have shielded oversight until the Summer of 2026.

REMINDER: Huizenga said Trump’s chaotic tariffs are “for the positive” – even as Huizenga admitted Michiganders would face higher prices thanks to tariffs he backs.

DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Bill Huizenga votes once again to raise costs on hardworking families and undercut the economy as businesses across Southwest Michigan close their doors thanks to his tariff agenda. Huizenga pledged to lower the cost of living on the campaign trail but has done the exact opposite. Promises made, promises broken.”
