Does Bob Dold Still Side with Republican Extremists Over Planned Parenthood Videos?

Dold even offered amendment to defund Planned Parenthood clinics

In light of the news that a Texas grand jury has indicted the two creators of the heavily-edited Planned Parenthood videos and rejected criminal allegations against Planned Parenthood, it’s clear Republican Congressman Bob Dold was all too eager to jump to conclusions at the risk of women’s health.

Despite claiming to stand with women over his own party’s extremism, Bob Dold – declaring that the videos were “disturbing and demand[ed] action” – offered legislation that would have defunded Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide.

Republican Bob Dold has even joined his party in voting down an amendment to allow abortions if a woman’s life is in danger, reminding everyone that Dold votes with Republicans 79% of the time.

We have long known that the real Bob Dold sides with Republicans over issues such as women’s health care, but does he still stand with the now-indicted creators of the Planned Parenthood videos? After offering an amendment to defund Planned Parenthood, it’s not always easy to decipher Bob Dold’s true positions on women’s health, but maybe these charges will be enough,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC.

Background:

“Videos are Disturbing and Demand Action,” Said Dold Before Offering Plan To Defund Planned Parenthood. “Dold had previously offered legislation to replace the proposal voted on today with a plan that would have taken federal funding from a handful of clinics nationwide that get money for aborted fetus tissue while they were investigated for 90 days. ‘…The undercover videos are disturbing and demand action,’ Dold said.” [Daily Herald, 9/18/15]

Dold Offered Amendment to Limit Funding to Planned Parenthood Clinics. In September 2015, Rep. Dold offered an amendment to H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 to limit funding to Planned Parenthood clinics, putting women’s health services in jeopardy. [H.R. 3134, Amendment, 9/15/15]

Dold Voted Against Adding Exception To Anti-Choice Bill To Protect The Health Of The Woman. “U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley’s attempt to amend a bill calling for a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy was defeated Wednesday, and the House went on to pass the ban. The Westlake Village Democrat’s motion and amendment would have added language to the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act that would have permitted abortions after 20 weeks if a woman’s health were at risk. It was defeated on a mostly party-line 181-246 vote.” [H.R. 36, Vote #222, 5/13/15; Ventura County Star, 5/13/15]

Dold Voted to Undermine a Woman’s Right to Choose In 2011, Dold voted for a bill which undermined and harmed women’s health by limiting access and funding for abortions. Known as he “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” this bill prohibited federal medical facilities from providing abortion services and dramatically changed the laws regarding abortion access and funding.
