Someone should tell Republican Bob Dold to dial down his rhetoric, especially when his voting record exposes his blatant double-talk. This week Dold said, “People are very concerned about national security. They see what happened in Paris, they see what’s going on in San Bernardino, those types of things are elevating people’s concerns,” and touted his support of a bipartisan measure that would close a loophole in our gun laws that currently allows suspected terrorist access to firearms and explosives.
The problem? Dold has voted to block this bill. Three times. Each time House Democrats tried this week to bring the bill up for debate, House Republicans like Bob Dold prevented the measure from moving forward.
Simply put, Bob Dold has now voted three times to continue to allow suspected terrorists on the FBI’s watch list access to dangerous weapons, all while trying to paint himself as a champion for gun control.
“Republican Bob Dold’s promise to lead on gun control is sadly as false as his promise to move his home into the district he represents,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC. “Bob Dold loves to spout rhetoric to voters back home, but when Washington Republicans ask for his vote, he gladly hands it over to keep in the good graces of Republican leaders like Paul Ryan. Illinoisans know that Bob Dold is just another two-faced Washington politician, lacking in substance and full of empty promises.”
