Williams joins with extreme MAGA Republicans to push U.S. economy closer to default
Today, highly vulnerable Rep. Brandon Williams caved to the far-right House Freedom Caucus and said he plans to vote “yes” on the extreme MAGA Republican proposal that would make significant cuts to law enforcement agencies, veterans’ health care, education programs, and recently created manufacturing jobs.
Given GOP leadership’s recent claim that they’re refusing to budge on the bill’s extreme and harmful provisions, Williams’ unabashed support of this dangerous bill is a clear signal he sides with extremists in Washington over the workers and families in central New York this bill would significantly hurt.
Specifically, the plan would:
Cut more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs created by the Inflation Reduction Act
Cut at least 81,000 jobs across the Veterans Health Administration and cause 30 million fewer veteran outpatient visits
Cut at least 200,000 children off Head Start and cut another 180,000 children off child-care programs
The Williams-backed plan inches the U.S. economy closer and closer to default on its debts. The economic consequences of a default would be catastrophic, including a job-killing recession and a retirement account-killing stock market crash.

Williams’ decision proves he is nothing more than a rubber-stamp to the extreme MAGA Republican majority and their far-right agenda, and his support for this plan is unacceptable.”
