Brandon Williams Votes to Allow Offshore Drilling in New York

Williams is threatening New York’s coastal communities to please Big Oil

Last night, Rep. Brandon Williams voted against a bipartisan amendment that would block new oil and gas leasing in any tract located off the coast of New York.

Williams’ decision to side with Big Oil comes at serious risk to his own state’s coastal communities, economy, and environment.

The bipartisan amendment, introduced by Rep. David Cicilline, would help protect New York’s shoreline from the threat of a major oil spill, which would be catastrophic for New York’s economy and environment.

Yet Williams, who has received thousands in donations from the oil and gas industry, chose instead to use his power in Congress to put coastal New York at risk and vote against protecting his own community from the threat of Big Oil.

DCCC spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre:
“Brandon Williams’ blatant disregard for New York’s environment is unacceptable. Voters won’t forget how quickly he put New York at risk just to make life easier for Big Oil.”
