| A bombshell Politico investigation this week revealed that a campaign volunteer for vulnerable Republican Juan Ciscomani – Rachel Hope – was a central figure in a vile GOP group chat filled with rape jokes, racist slurs, antisemitic hate, and violent rhetoric.
Now, the Green Valley News reports that Ciscomani’s office “declined to answer… whether she would be welcome to work on future campaigns.” Representatives from Ciscomani’s campaign team refused to even respond.
Let’s be clear about the volunteer’s role in the group chat: Hope, events chair for the Arizona Young Republicans, didn’t just fail to stop the hate-filled rhetoric — she was an active participant in these disgusting conversations.
In her own messages, Hope said she “loved” a plan to use pro-Nazi propaganda as a campaign strategy. She also reacted with “fire” emojis to suggestions that opponents be sent to a “gas chamber” because her group “only want[s] true believers,” as well as a “heart” emoji to a message about supporting “the most ring wing person.”
Arizonans deserve answers:
- Why won’t Ciscomani disavow his volunteer’s role in spreading hateful rhetoric?
- Will the volunteer be welcome back to work on future Ciscomani campaigns?
- Does Ciscomani think the volunteer should resign from the Arizona Young Republicans?
DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Juan Ciscomani’s silence is deafening. Having a campaign volunteer who praises using pro-Nazi propaganda is bad enough, but now he won’t even take the time to condemn this person’s rhetoric or the vile, hate-filled group chat that she contributed to. This tells Arizona voters everything they need to know about Ciscomani’s judgement.” |
