Vulnerable Republican Officially Owns Trump Policies That Have Hurt New York Families
Today, John Katko endorsed Donald Trump for President, solidifying what we’ve long warned against: John Katko is nothing more than a rubberstamp for Donald Trump’s reckless policies.
Katko said he made his endorsement by looking “at what we’ve been able to accomplish under his presidency.” In publicly siding with Trump, Katko owns the following:
- Trump’s Tax Scam of 2017 and its caps on SALT deductions that have disproportionately hurt and raised taxes on New York families.
- Trump’s continued attempts raise health care costs and rip away protections from Central New Yorkers with preexisting conditions.
- Trump’s most recent threats to gut Medicare.
- Trump’s reckless trade war that hurt businesses in Central New York.
“John Katko’s endorsement of Donald Trump comes just one day after the President threatened, again, to gut Medicare,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “This isn’t just an endorsement of Trump, it’s an endorsement of every single one of the reckless policies, like the GOP Tax Scam, that hurt Central New Yorkers most.”
In 2016, John Katko was among about 25 Republicans to win in a district that Clinton carried. Today he is among only three House Republicans who still represent a district that Clinton won. One of the three, Will Hurd of Texas, has decided not to seek a new term this year.
