Politico reports Turner “spent $70k in campaign cash on meals”
In the past three years, Mike Turner has used campaign cash to bankroll over $70,000 worth of meals in locations from London, to Miami, to New York, to Brussels.
A new report from Politico revealed Turner’s flagrant abuse of campaign funds, drawing an unmistakable connection to disgraced former Congressman Duncan Hunter’s own misuse of campaign funds. Per the report, put together, the massive amount of spending displays a clear pattern: “Turner uses his donors to subsidize his personal dining costs…”
In response to his behavior, Noah Bookbinder from the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington called Turner’s activity “suspicious” and the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center’s Adav Noti described the spending as “unusually luxe.”
Noti went on to say that: “It’s concerning when an elected official consistently spends campaign money on fancy meals because it means that the official’s big campaign donors are essentially subsidizing his lifestyle, and that gives wealthy donors far too much influence at the expense of the official’s actual constituents.”
DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer released the following statement:
“Congressman Mike Turner has spent his time in Congress abusing his position to fund an extravagant lifestyle. This behavior is completely unethical and a clear indictment of Turner’s character and ability to represent the Miami Valley with any real integrity. He must immediately personally reimburse all of these expenditures and owes every single one of his constituents an apology.”
