BREAKING: Valadao’s Health Care Record Will Cost Him His Seat

A stunning new report makes clear what Central Valley families already know: David Valadao’s health care betrayal is catching up with him – and it will cost him his job.
CalMatters reports that nearly two-thirds of Valadao’s constituents rely on Medi-Cal, “the highest Medicaid enrollment rate of any Republican seat in the country.” Despite that reality, Valadao cast “the decisive vote” to slash more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and other programs to bankroll tax cuts that economists agree benefit the richest Americans and big corporations.

The consequences are severe: an estimated two million Californians kicked off their health care, rural hospitals crippled, and services gutted in predominantly Hispanic communities – the very harms Valadao claimed to care about before voting for them anyway.

Valadao now has the unenviable task of justifying why he consistently supported — not just on final passage, but at each procedural step along the way — a measure that bears such dire consequences.” His office declined repeated interview requests as the damage becomes impossible to ignore.

Even Republican strategists admit Valadao is in “deep trouble,” regardless of past overperformance. “Nine times out of 10, I don’t say that. But this year is going to look a lot like 2018 — probably more.”

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser
“David Valadao chose to sell out his constituents and side with his party bosses and wealthy special interests. Central Valley voters are ready to hold him accountable once again.”
