“A town hall took place at the Green Ridge Club in Scranton Tuesday evening […] to talk about how Bresnahan broke his promises to help the people of his district by repeatedly voting to slash Medicaid and SNAP.”

  • In introductory remarks, Marc Stier, executive director of Pennsylvania Policy Center, criticized the One Big Beautiful Bill Act for giving more money to billionaires, adding many in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District will lose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid benefits. He said U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan, R-8, Dallas Twp., hasn’t worked for them.
  • “The gifts … are going to the richest people,” Stier said. “All of us are going to … sacrifice for this bill. We are not going to forget Congressman Bresnahan’s broken vows and what they have done for the people of Pennsylvania.”
  • Jennifer Partyka, a registered nurse and patient advocate from Glenburn Twp., said Medicaid has helped her son, who has Crohn’s Disease.
  • “People on Medicaid are not horrible parasites, they are regular people,” she said. “Many people on Medicaid are hard-working people.”
  • Partyka said many of those on Medicaid are senior citizens and children. She also said Medicaid is the top payer of hospitals and without it, many hospitals will close, resulting in fewer beds in the region.
