Despite lecturing the public for months on the deficit, Fitzpatrick proves his fiscal hypocrisy by voting to advance a new trillion dollar hole in the federal deficit
Just weeks after Brian Fitzpatrick and MAGA House Republicans held the nation’s economy hostage with the supposed purpose of reducing the federal deficit, late last night Fitzpatrick advanced a series of irresponsible bills out of the House Ways and Means committee that would increase the federal deficit by more than a trillion dollars over the next decade.
The centerpiece of this latest MAGA tax scam prioritizes the wealthiest few and big corporations, including voting to provide an $11 billion tax break directly to Big Oil producers. Fitzpatrick’s scheme would also kill thousands of clean energy jobs created through the Inflation Reduction Act.
Fitzpatrick also voted to kill an amendment that would have provided meaningful tax relief to Pennsylvania families by bringing the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction back to its pre-2017 levels. Mr. Fitzpatrick, who claims to care about the SALT tax burden, voted to keep this double taxation in place for Pennsylvania families.
Finally, Fitzpatrick, someone who has courted the support of organized labor in the past by promising to fight for workers, literally walked away from an opportunity to support workers. During a vote on an amendment requiring corporations to pay prevailing wages to their workers, Fitzpatrick mysteriously vanished, only to magically return after the amendment vote was over to participate for the rest of the committee mark-up. Fitzpatrick was the only member of the Ways and Means Committee to miss this vote.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Brian Fitzpatrick and MAGA Republicans have revealed their fiscal hypocrisy yet again. He isn’t serious about reducing the deficit, he is just interested in rewarding the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of creating good-paying jobs for the middle class. The American people rejected their unfair tax scam in 2018 and will do so again in 2024.”
