Brian Fitzpatrick Votes to Restrict Abortion Freedoms

Fitzpatrick votes against protecting reproductive freedom

As women across the country endure the unimaginable, brutal consequences of Republican’s war on women, Brian Fitzpatrick and House Republicans are doubling down on their anti-choice agenda in the early days of serving in the majority.

Earlier this week, in one of his very first votes in the 118th Congress, Fitzpatrick voted against consideration of the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) which would codify the reproductive freedoms Roe v. Wade guaranteed before the Supreme Court ripped them away. Fitzpatrick voted against the WHPA in the 117th Congress as well.

On top of blocking abortion protections, today Fitzpatrick voted to pass anti-choice legislation that could imprison doctors and is “chock-full of misinformation and creates more barriers to care.”

REMINDER:

  • Last time House Republicans were in the majority, Fitzpatrick voted for a nationwide abortion ban.

  • In 2017, Fitzpatrick voted against an amendment to a nationwide abortion ban that would allow for exceptions if the health of the mother was at risk.

  • In 2017, Fitzpatrick voted to impose criminal penalties on doctors who perform abortions on rape and incest victims without law enforcement approval.

Clearly, Fitzpatrick and House Republicans did not learn anything when voters sent a clear and resounding message that they support reproductive freedom – dealing the Republican party an embarrassing midterm performance.

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Brian Fitzpatrick and the Republican party’s despicable commitment to ripping away reproductive freedom is heard loud and clear. With every extreme vote against protecting and further restricting abortion rights, Fitzpatrick is building the case against himself for 2024.”
