Bruising Primary Leaves Republicans Stuck with Extreme Candidate in FL-18

The NRCC has added Brian Mast to its “Young Guns” candidate program, solidifying their support for a candidate radically out of touch with Treasure Coast voters.  Mast heads into the general election after a brutal, crowded GOP primary. A primary fight that forced him to publicly stake out extreme, Tea Party positions, including praising the obstructionist, out-of-touch agenda of former Congressman Allen West, who voters in this district rejected. Mast now faces a general election electorate that he is firmly out of touch with, having signed a pledge to protect tax breaks for outsourcers, committing to defunding Planned Parenthood, and even endorsing Donald Trump.

“In a moderate district where over 20 percent of the population is made up of diverse voters, Mast is out of touch,” said Jermaine House of the DCCC. “Treasure Coast voters already rejected extremist Allen West; they will also reject Brian Mast who supports reckless tax breaks for outsourcers and defunding Planned Parenthood.”
