| With no message, no substantive results, and no enthusiasm, rank-and-file Republicans are admitting they will lose the midterms.
According to new reporting from MS NOW, Republicans are certain of defeat despite phony optimism from Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson.
During a private, member-only call on March 1, 2026, before their retreat, Republicans aired grievances about a lack of legislative agenda – an issue that was supposed to be solved during this week’s gathering.

One Republican, Brandon Gill, said that the American people see the GOP House “as a bunch of do-nothing, kind of idiots, candidly.”
Another Republican, Keith Self, told colleagues that their economic messaging is out of step with the public: “We talk about them feeling the economy all the time, but they’re not feeling it with Congress. They’re just not.”
Even worse, vulnerable House Republicans have reportedly lost faith in Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership. One unnamed member from a swing district remarked: “Any member in a tough district should never be looking to leadership to save them… because leadership doesn’t know how to run races.”
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“We agree with the unnamed Republican quoted in this story: ‘No one thinks [the GOP will be] keeping the majority except for the speaker.’”
