‘BUILDING BLOCKS’ REPORT: Donald Trump & Minnesota Republicans Built from Same Reckless Policies

As First Digital Ad Campaign Continues to Target Women in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District This Week– DCCC Releases Report of Shared Policies Between Trump & Minnesota Republicans

Just before Memorial Day, the DCCC launched its first paid digital advertising campaign of the cycle in 15 districts, including Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, to highlight the clear connection between Donald Trump and Minnesota Republicans Jason Lewis, John Howe, Darlene Miller, and Matt Erickson. As that two-week advertisement, “Building Blocks,” continues to run locally, and in the days following Speaker Paul Ryan’s delayed endorsement of Donald Trump, the DCCC released a report today specifically outlining the reckless policies and positions that Donald Trump and MN-02 Republican candidates share.

Donald Trump’s ascension as the Republican presidential nominee means House Republicans will be on the Trump ticket in November, a deeply damaging and unavoidable reality. Further, Trump’s mantle as the leader of the Republican Party shines a national spotlight on the anti-immigrant, anti-women, anti-Muslim, and anti-LGBT positions of the House Republicans – positions they staked out long before Trump launched his campaign.

Specifically, the DCCC’s report outlined GOP contenders’ Trump-like positions, including:

  • Anti-Women: Lewis, Miller, Howe and Donald Trump all back defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides critical health care services to Minnesota women.
  • Anti-Immigrant: Jason Lewis and Matt Erickson have all gotten on board with Donald Trump’s outlandish proposal to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Darlene Miller has voiced support for a Trump-style temporary ban on immigration.

These advertisements will continue through this week, targeting female Independent and Republican voters in MN-02, with whom Donald Trump’s numbers are toxic. This 5-figure digital ad campaign will also be promoted on Facebook in Washington, D.C.
