Trump Shuts Down AG Barr’s Plea Not To Take Away People’s Health Care During COVID-19 Pandemic
Following Trump’s refusal of Attorney General William Barr’s plea to rethink his House Republican-backed lawsuit to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip health coverage from millions of Americans in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos released the following statement.
“Attorney General William Barr is right and House Republicans should follow his lead by backing away from their reckless attempt to fully dismantle our health care system in the midst of a global pandemic. Instead, House Republicans are barreling forward in their attempt to eliminate the Affordable Care Act and put millions of Americans’ lives in danger during a deadly pandemic. House Republicans have an obligation to stop playing politics with American lives and drop their support for a lawsuit that could devastate our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Barr’s efforts came before the Wednesday deadline for the Trump Administration to change its position in a lawsuit that would strip health care from millions of Americans and allow insurance companies to turn away COVID-19 patients.
Trump announced on Wednesday afternoon that his Administration will proceed with its plan to repeal the entire ACA and gut Americans’ health care.
Nearly every House Republican voted in 2019 to support the Trump Administration’s lawsuit to strike down the Affordable Care Act.
