Bustos: Republicans Cannot Replace Steve King with Marjorie Taylor Greene

One week ago, a QAnon conspiracist and Klan-linked Republican congressional candidate in Georgia took a major step forward in her bid for Congress. One week later, House Republican Leadership hasn’t said a word.

In the Republican primary for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District – a district Donald Trump won with 75 percent of the vote in 2016 – Marjorie Taylor Greene outpaced her next-closest Republican primary competitor by 20 points.

recent Daily Beast report honed in on Greene’s membership in the conspiracy group considered by the FBI to be “a potential source of domestic terrorism.”

Additionally, Greene was photographed with a known Ku Klux Klan leader who called her a “good friend.” Greene refuses to disavow the white supremacist and frequently expresses bigoted views of her own.

Per the Washington Post, “None of the top three House Republicans, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Minority Whip Steve Scalise (La.) or Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (Wyo.), responded to questions about Greene’s candidacy and possible place within their ranks.”

DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos released the following statement on House Republican Leadership’s total and complete silence on Greene’s candidacy:

“Republicans in Washington are obligated to disavow this conspiracy theorist, her bigoted views and the dangerous disinformation she would spread if given a taxpayer-funded platform. Minority Leader McCarthy must do what is right for our country and denounce Ms. Greene’s candidacy outright at this moment of national reckoning and reflection. There must be no place for these baseless and hateful views inside of the Congress and it is troubling that Washington Republican leaders have stood silent amid her rise, or worse, embraced her.

“We do not need a next-generation Steve King roaming around the halls of Congress.”
