CA-22 Paying the Price for Valadao’s Failures as Covered California Deadline Looms

As Californians stare down the January 31st open enrollment deadline for Covered California, the average Golden State family is already facing $975 more per year in premium costs.

But in David Valadao’s district, the annual financial burden on lower-income families is even higher.

  • Kern County: $987 annual increase
  • Fresno County: $1,119 annual increase
  • Madera County: $1,162 annual increase
  • Kings County: $1,190 annual increase

Valadao is directly responsible for this crisis of skyrocketing health care costs. Despite repeatedly pledging not to gut Medicaidhe cast the deciding vote for the largest cut to Medicaid in history – ripping away coverage from over 68,000 people in CA-22. His vote put nearly 2 million Californians at risk of losing health care coverage and becoming uninsured,  and he has voted at least 30 times to cripple, defund, or change the Affordable Care Act.

In review, Valadao’s constituents are facing some of the highest cost increases in the state, or are at risk of losing health care coverage altogether – and he failed to take action in time to prevent it.

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser
“From Madera to Kern County, David Valadao is pricing families out of health care. Premiums are soaring, tens of thousands are losing coverage, and Valadao is too busy putting Washington first to care. Come November, voters will make him pay for this failure.”
