CA Republicans in tight House races attempt to back off Donald Trump’s comments on women [LA Times]

None Withdraw Support or Vote

“It’s far too late for any California Republican to disavow Donald Trump. Statements of opposition to him at this point are quite frankly pathetic. Now it’s up to Californians to disavow the politicians who didn’t denounce Trump from the day he started running for President,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC.

Congressman Steve Knight and Republicans Justin Fareed and Scott Jones all attempted to separate themselves from Donald Trump’s remarks last night, but none showed the moral courage to withdraw support for their nominee or say they will not vote for him.

Congressman Jeff Denham has yet to release any statement on his presidential candidate’s disgusting remarks.

Congressman David Valadao has played this political game for months but still hasn’t said he will vote for Hillary Clinton – the only real way to prevent a Trump presidency.

Congressman Darrell Issa, who just joined Trump’s national security team, also released a meaningless social media statement.

The wave of Republican candidates shunning Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump after a recording emerged Friday of him boasting about groping women is beginning to reach California’s House races.

Freshman GOP Congressman Steve Knight (R-Lancaster) …called Trump’s comments “repulsive” in a Facebook post Friday night.

Knight’s political consultant Matt Rexroad told The Times in August that Knight had not endorsed a candidate for president. He did not respond when asked Friday if Knight would vote for Trump. Knight’s House seat is one that national Democrats are intent on capturing due to shifting demographics and the idea that Trump may cause problems down the ticket.

Justin Fareed, a 28-year-old GOP candidate locked in an expensive race to replace outgoing Rep. Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara), called the comments “disgusting” but stopped short of pulling his endorsement of Trump.

His campaign did not immediately respond when asked whether Fareed still endorsed Trump or was planning on voting for him.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, a Republican who is challenging Democratic Rep. Ami Bera of Elk Grove, called Trump’s comments “indefensible,” but his campaign did not immediately respond when asked whether he would vote for Trump.
