How quickly the tables turn – less than three days after the pundits and Republican establishment loudly crowed that John Cox clearing the low bar of ‘making it onto the general election ballot’ was a ‘win’ for California Republicans, turns out that they maybe should’ve looked that gift horse in the mouth. From the Sacramento Bee reported this morning:
“Cox said, when he ran unsuccessfully for president in 2008 and earlier, that he opposes abortion in all circumstances and there should be no exceptions. “I think that anybody who has a rape and incest exception to abortion hasn’t thought it through. Killing the baby is not going to absolve the crime of rape,” he said in 2006.
“Rosales declined to answer whether Cox still holds that position.
“”We’re not going to comment on that. It’s not an issue we’re going to discuss,” Rosales said.”
DCCC Spokesperson Drew Godinich released the following statement:
“It didn’t take three days before John Cox’s ‘win’ turned into a liability for vulnerable House Republicans in California. Each of them should answer whether they will continue to support their nominee, and they will ultimately have to answer for John Cox’s extreme positons in November.”
