Despite companies like Walmart, Amazon, and Sears pulling the Confederate flag from their shelves, late last night Republican Ken Calvert (CA-42) offered an amendment that would allow the Confederate flag to be sold at national parks.
Today, instead of voting to remove this symbol of hate from the U.S. Capitol – just as the South Carolina legislature voted this week – California Republicans, led by Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), chose procedural delays and parliamentary games ensuring the confederate battle flag remains on display.
“Congress could be celebrating with South Carolina over the planned removal of the confederate battle flag – instead California Republicans decided to repeatedly protect the flag,” said Barb Solish of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “It is appalling and shameful that California Republicans led the charge to defend this symbol of hate.”
