California Republican congressional candidates in tight races have remained silent after their presidential nominee Donald Trump smeared a Gold Star family over the weekend.
Candidates from up and down the state have either wrapped their arms around Trump or are closing their eyes, hoping he goes away. No matter how far they try to run – or if at some point they are forced to release a cookie-cutter statement on Trump’s detestable comments – they have already proven their unwillingness to stand up to Trump.
California Republican candidates still silent on Trump’s comments smearing a Gold Star family:
Scott Jones (CA-07)
Rep. Jeff Denham (CA-10)
Rep. David Valadao (CA-21)
Justin Fareed (CA-24)
Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25)
Rep. Darrell Issa (CA-49)
Denise Gitsham (CA-52)
“Donald Trump smearing a Gold Star family should be the breaking point for California Republican candidates, but apparently not,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “If these candidates can’t stand up to this bully now, how can California voters trust them to stand up for them in Congress?”
