California Republicans Criticize Pandemic Aid While Personally Benefiting from Funding

Reps. Ken Calvert and Michelle Steel and GOP candidate Tom Patti took hundreds of thousands combined in pandemic relief funds

Today, an investigation from the American Independent revealed prominent California Republicans personally benefited from hundreds of thousands in forgivable loans under the Paycheck Protection Program, despite their vocal criticism of federal aid.

Congresswoman Michelle Steel’s husband received a $170,800 PPP loan, even as Steel slammed pandemic aid as “reckless spending.”

Calvert Real Properties, a company Congressman Ken Calvert founded, took $7,000 in PPP loans, and GOP candidate Tom Patti — running with a laundry list of baggage against Rep. Josh Harder — took $31,722 in PPP loans while falsely claiming pandemic aid dissuaded employees from working. Thanks to measures like the Paycheck Protection Program, the U.S. is currently experiencing historic lows in unemployment.

DCCC Spokesperson Maddy Mundy
“California Republicans like Michelle Steel, Ken Calvert and Tom Patti want to deny the American people the same federal support they happily took for themselves. Californians deserve better than these self-serving hypocrites.”
