Californians continue to hold David Valadao’s feet to the fire ahead of the GOP’s vote on a far-right budget blueprint that would decimate critical programs that Valley families rely on, like Medicaid, instead of lowering costs.

Political activists made a final push Monday to persuade Rep. David Valadao, R-Hanford, to oppose budget cuts proposed in Congress that would endanger federal spending on the Medicaid program that as many as two-thirds of his constituents rely on for their health care.

Several dozen people rallied at noon outside a public services building the county of Kern operates along M Street in Bakersfield. The event followed a town hall-type event last week that reportedly drew more than 150 people to a senior center in Oildale.

Valadao did not respond to requests for comment Monday. He has not stated publicly how he intends to vote Tuesday on a GOP budget blueprint for cutting $880 billion, much of which would have to come out of federal funding for the program known in California as Medi-Cal.
