Campaign in TX-15 Slammed for Breaking Campaign Finance Law

Garza’s campaign keeps its amateur status title as the FEC fines him $1,900 for violations

You can’t do that Mauro…

The FEC recently revealed that they fined Texas Republican Mauro Garza once again — this time $1,900 for violating campaign finance law by failing to file a required campaign finance report in December 2020 for his previous failed congressional campaign.

This is the eighth fine Mauro has racked up from the FEC since 2019, bringing him to a whopping $20,204 owed to the FEC for violations. As Garza gears up for his primary in TX-15, his failure to follow campaign finance laws raises ethical questions that will dog him over the next several months.

As the primary battle for the Republican nomination in TX-15 heats up, South Texans can already see that the GOP’s candidates leave much to be desired. Between Monica De La Cruz, who has pushed misinformation about COVID-19 and spread conspiracies about the 2020 election, and Mauro Garza, who has repeatedly hid information about his campaign donors in violation of campaign finance law, Texas Republicans have presented voters in TX-15 with losing choices only.

“Mauro Garza is proving to be an excellent rule breaker, but his tricks and lies are only getting him so far as he is being forced to answer for his record of breaking campaign finance law,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Texas Republicans are in big trouble in 2022 if the best they have to offer voters in TX-15 are two failed congressional candidates who have to lie and cheat to get ahead.”
