Today marks the beginning of the general election in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District between Carol Shea-Porter and “Damned Liar” Congressman Frank Guinta.
Frank Guinta is the epitome of what’s wrong with Washington, whether it is deliberately lying to the faces of voters or siding with Tea Party extremists in Congress.
In contrast, Carol Shea-Porter is fighting to return integrity and real New Hampshire values to Congress and will stand up to special interests.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Sabato’s Crystal Ball: Leans Democratic
The Cook Political Report: Republican Toss-up
Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report: Toss-up/Tilt Democrat
“DAMNED LIAR”
Frank Guinta was fined for breaking the law by accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions from his parents.
When faced with the charge, Guinta lied about his illegal activity for years.
The Manchester Union Leader put it best: “Frank Guinta is a damned liar.”
Guinta’s refusal to come clean even prompted high-ranking state Republican officials, like Senator Kelly Ayotte and former Representative Jeb Bradley, to call for his resignation.
Bottom line: Congressman Frank Guinta lacks the character to represent Granite Staters in Congress, and New Hampshire deserves a representative it can trust.
HARDLINE CONSERVATIVE
Since returning to Congress, Frank Guinta has continued his extreme Tea Party agenda that hurts Granite State families.
Sides Against Granite State Veterans
Whether as a local elected official or a Member of Congress, Frank Guinta has consistently sided against New Hampshire’s veterans.
As an alderman of Manchester, Guinta rejected the idea of increasing veterans’ exemption to city property taxes, arguing that doing so would not make much of a difference to taxpayers.
In Congress, Guinta voted to make it harder for low-income veterans and Social Security recipients to fight for their benefits.
Guinta also voted against a motion that would have provided an additional $20 million for veterans’ medical service to help with post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide prevention.
Guinta even voted against a $75 million increase to a program that provided veterans with access to housing assistance.
Sides Against Granite State Women and Families
Frank Guinta is 100% opposed to a woman’s right to choose, even in the case of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.
Since returning to Congress, Guinta voted six times to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict access to preventative health care, like mammograms and cancer screenings, for New Hampshire women and families.
NEW HAMPSHIRE’S 1st CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
New Hampshire’s 1st congressional district is a swing seat that benefits Democratic candidates during presidential years. President Obama won this seat both in 2008 and 2012.
The presence of a Libertarian Party congressional candidate on the ballot this November should also worry Guinta, given that the right-leaning Libertarian candidate took 4.2% of the vote in the last presidential cycle.
In a presidential year with a strong and respected candidate in Carol Shea-Porter, Democrats are poised to firmly win back the seat in November.
CONCLUSION
This November, Granite State voters will have a clear choice between “Damn Liar” Frank Guinta, and Carol Shea-Porter’s record of standing up for New Hampshire families.
