SOUTHERN INDIANA — Democratic candidate Shelli Yoder, running for the Ninth Congressional District, released the last five years of her tax returns, and she is calling on her opponent, Trey Hollingsworth, to do the same.
Hollingsworth won’t release his tax returns, but he believes a “detailed” report of his financial assets and liabilities that all Congressional candidates must file shows his “genuine business experience” in Indiana for the last 11 years.
[…] Hollingsworth, a business owner from Tennessee, moved to Jeffersonville sometime last fall. His business, a manufacturing site rehabilitation company called Hollingsworth Capital Partners, has Indiana ties, and his wife’s family is from Louisville.
Tax returns, Yoder said, could reveal things like Hollingsworth’s last place of residence, which he won’t disclose, and more information about his interest in Indiana’s Ninth Congressional District.
“These are the questions that in the spirit of transparency, Hoosiers want to know and deserve to know,” she said.
[…] In an interview at the News and Tribune, Hollingsworth avoided answering a question about where he lived before moving to Jeffersonville. His wife’s career has taken the two to various cities, eventually landing them close to her parents who live in Louisville.
Yoder characterized Hollingsworth’s run for Congress as “district-hopping” and “taking advantage of [Indiana] hospitality.”
“It is important for voters throughout central, southern Indiana, to be able to know who they’re voting for,” Yoder said during a visit at the News and Tribune’s office in New Albany. “Typically we have records, histories. We have family. We have friends.
“We have somebody who’s running in the ninth that a year ago did not live here and is saying that his interest here is that he has a business [with Indiana ties].”
