RE: The Case Against Rep. Tom McClintock

Tom McClintock has been a politician his entire life and he is out of touch and out of step with the people of California’s 4th Congressional District.

From backing a health care repeal bill and supporting a tax scam that both hurt Californians, McClintock’s record amounts to one vote after another in support of powerful special interests and the Washington Republican agenda. In a year where Californians are fed up with the status quo, and hundreds of his voters have spent months protesting him, McClintock is in for the race of his political career.

While McClintock continues to be out of step with the needs of the people he represents Jessica Morse has been traveling to communities across California’s 4th Congressional District to hear from seniors, workers, and families about the challenges they face. As a national security strategist, Jessica has worked with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to solve problems and make her community a better place.

The people of California’s 4th Congressional District are sick and tired of not having a representative in Congress who understands their priorities and is willing to fight for them and Jessica Morse has proven she isn’t afraid to run into the fight while Rep. McClintock is afraid of his constituents.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“There isn’t space here to list the ways McClintock’s bills and votes have hurt his district and the nation, but they include immigration, women’s issues, foreign policy and, most importantly, the environment—he is the chair of the House Public Lands subcommittee, and removing him from that position would be a victory for every living thing,” [Sacramento News & Review, 5/31/18].

“There’s little doubt, however, that the congressman faces what could be his toughest re-election challenge,” [San Francisco Chronicle 5/31/18].

Rep. Tom McClintock: Out of Touch & Out of Step

Protest after Protest

Californians in the 4th Congressional District have made it very clear they are no longer going to sit idly by and accept McClintock’s out of step record. During a nationally noticed meeting with constituents in early 2017, the pressure got to McClintock, and he called the police to come and escort him out. The protests haven’t stopped: for several months, dozens of fed up men, women, and seniors have been making their voices heard by standing outside McClintock’s office holding him accountable for his out of touch votes on the GOP Tax Scam and toxic health care bill.

Voted for Tax Scam at Expense of Californians

After claiming to acknowledge that the Tax Scam hurt Californians, Tom McClintock backtracked and became the only Republican member to switch his vote and support a bill that hits Californians with “double taxation” and is slated to increase taxes on Californians by $12 billion. He rails against our country’s debt, but the Tax Scam is slated to increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion. Worse, it gives 83% of its benefits to the wealthiest 1% of Americans — all while millions of middle-class families pay more over time.

Endangered Health Care for Families & Seniors

The people of California’s protests and pleas for him to protect their access to affordable health care fell on deaf ears. McClintock voted for the Washington Republican Establishment’s health care bill that would have taken health insurance away from 37,000 people in California’s 4th Congressional District, raised their premiums, imposed an age tax on seniors, and done nothing to lower the price of prescription drugs. If that wasn’t enough, his support of the GOP Tax Scam could lead to a to a 17.8% healthcare premium increase in California this year.

THE PATH TO VICTORY

The people of California’s 4th Congressional District have made it clear that they feel Rep. McClintock is out of touch with their needs, and they want a representative like Jessica Morse who is from their community and will work on their behalf.

Until now, Democrats have not fielded a strong general election candidate against McClintock, leaving him mostly untested. In a cycle where Democrats have enjoyed historic enthusiasm and momentum, Morse has positioned herself to capitalize on this favorable local and national climate, and will provide a well-funded challenge.

Facing independent, solution-oriented leaders like Jessica Morse, it’s clear that Tom McClintock is in for the fight of his career.
