CAUGHT: McCaul Inflated His Q4 Numbers, Spent Lavishly

McCaul has now spent more than $36,000 on luxury limo service and since 2018 alone more than $50,000 on food, beverage and meal expenses

Does anyone have a calculator for Congressman Mike McCaul?

For another quarter, McCaul’s campaign tried using accounting tricks and fuzzy math to inflate their quarterly fundraising. By double-counting money two ways, McCaul fudged his numbers to magically claim “$500,000” raised despite actually raising $377,909 along with a staggering 56.5 percent burn rate.

But the Texas Tribune’s Abby Livingston caught it:

“I must clarify this tweet. Michael McCaul’s campaign gave this figure at the time but did not clarify it included affiliated leadership PACs. This is not the [standard operating procedure] when releasing fundraising figures to reporters. McCaul raised $378k for his campaign account in Q4.”

The report also exposes that the McCauls haven’t quite kicked their addiction to the *~*finer things in life*~* at their campaign account’s expense.

McCaul spent thousands at a time at several luxe Washington D.C. and Texas restaurants – especially the posh Capitol Hill Club, at which he spent thousands on various occasions. Bon appétit!

And it wouldn’t be a McCaul campaign finance report without his campaign spending another $1,000 on the McCauls’ favorite way to get around town: limos.

As a reminder, the congressman’s campaign has now spent more than $36,000 on luxury limousines since he entered Congress. And for her part, Mrs. McCaul’s glowing testimonial is still on the limo service’s website:

“Echelon limousine is a very trusted company that has assisted me, as well as the needs of my husband, Congressman Michael T. McCaul, Representative, Texas 10th Congressional District and on occasion, the needs of my children.”

Must be nice to be a McCaul!
