Caught Red Handed: Republicans are Lying About Their Massive Cuts to Medicaid

Last week, House Republicans enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in American history to fund tax breaks for their billionaire donors. 

Republicans – including the so-called moderates – falsely stated that their vote was about removing waste, fraud and abuse from the program that gives health care to millions. 

Now, a new fact-check from PolitiFact makes clear the GOP Tax Scam would do much more than that, making massive cuts to Medicaid that would result in nearly 14 million Americans uninsured.
     
Similar to Trump, vulnerable Republicans in the House have pushed the same lie, including, but very much so not limited to: 

• Rep. Mike Lawler (NY-17): “We are going to stop the waste, fraud and abuse …”
• Rep. Rob Bresnahan (PA-08): “I fought to protect social safety net programs from the waste, fraud, and abuse that have threatened their long-term solvency.”
• Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-03): “We’re focusing on waste, fraud, and abuse.”

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Just like Donald Trump, the so-called moderates lied about protecting Medicaid — and now they’ll have to answer for breaking that promise to the American people.”
