As Cawthorn Faces Questions on QAnon and White Supremacist Ties, DCCC Adds NC-11 To Battlefield

DCCC expands 51 district offensive battlefield

Today, the DCCC added NC-11 to its offensive battlefield, in addition to TX-03, TX-06, and TX-25. These latest additions bring the DCCC’s offensive target list to 51 districts.

NC-11 Democratic Nominee Colonel Moe Davis is a retired Air Force Colonel, Director of the Air Force Judiciary and former Chief Prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay – a position he used to stand against torture in 2007, for which he was recognized by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

Davis is running against Madison Cawthorn, a man who has come under fire in recent weeks for his not-so-subtle pattern of signaling white supremacy sympathies, for lying about his personal story, and for parroting QAnon conspiracy theories. Most egregiously, Cawthorn has been criticized for an Instagram post he deleted, then reposted showing him enjoying a vacation at Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest, a trip he admitted was on his bucket list.

And breaking just yesterday, a new report laid out how Cawthorn has adopted QAnon talking points, went on a trip with known QAnon conspiracy theorists, and met with fellow QAnon candidate Lauren Boebert.

Recent DCCC polling shows just how close this race is, with Davis trailing Cawthorn by only 5 points (41-46) and with Biden and Trump statistically tied (46-48).

DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer released the following statement:

“Colonel Moe Davis’ exemplary record of serving his country shows a man whose honesty and integrity has motivated his life’s work to make our country better. Madison Cawthorn, meanwhile, has a well-documented record of signaling white supremacy and lying about his background. Cawthorn will spend the rest of the election dodging questions and hoping no additional scandals blow up as he attempts to disguise the truth for political gain. There’s no comparison: Davis’ independent voice and lifetime of service make him the perfect person to represent North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.”

Cook Political Report recently shifted this race to Likely Republican noting that this district was recently redrawn moving it towards Democrats by a 12-point margin and that “Democrat Heath Shuler won under similar lines as recently as 2010.”
