After Celebrating Repeal & Ripoff Vote, Rep. Jason Lewis Refuses to Hold Town Hall

Last week, Rep. Jason Lewis took one of the most heartless votes of his career by supporting the Republican Repeal and Ripoff bill that raises health care costs, strips away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and slaps an age tax on seniors. Then he joined President Trump to celebrate in the White House Rose Garden.

Now he is hiding from constituents during a congressional recess. Constituents are taking matters into their own hands, holding protests and taking to social media to share their stories and concerns about the Republican Repeal and Ripoff bill.

“This is the definition of political cowardice,” said DCCC spokeswoman Rachel Irwin. “If Rep. Lewis thinks he can take heartless votes in Washington, then turn his back on constituents, he should think again. Celebrating his efforts to take away health care from millions of Americans is not ‘Minnesota nice,’ and his constituents will remember come Election Day.”

The Cook Political Report has shifted Lewis’ race in favor of Democrats. Cook and Sabato’s Crystal Ball both rate this race a ‘toss up.’
