Last week at a debate at Cuesta College, Republicans running in California’s 24th Congressional District Katcho Achadjian, Matt Kokkonen, and Justin Fareed doubled down on their Republican positions that are patently out of touch with the Central Coast.
On the eve of Earth Day, Achadjian reiterated his support for offshore oil drilling, despite the fresh memory of the disastrous Refugio Oil Spill. Perhaps it is because he’s made millions in the oil business and questioned whether or not humans impact climate change. Fun fact: Earth Day originated from a 1969 massive oil spill…in Santa Barbara.
On stage, Kokkonen definitively opposed giving women safe and legal access to abortion. It’s not surprising, since Kokkonen expressed his strong support for Donald Trump, who said women should be ‘punished’ for having abortions.
Fareed joined all of the Republicans opposing raising the minimum wage, despite the 5.6 million Californians who will benefit from the state’s landmark increase.
“The hodgepodge of Republicans running in California’s 24th District share one thing in common: they are completely out of touch with Central Coast values,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “Central Coast families deserve a representative who will protect California’s coastline, ensure access to women’s healthcare, and make sure no one working full time lives in poverty.”
