Today, Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney issued the following statement on Stop Asian Hate Day of Action:
“Last week, we witnessed yet another horrific attack targeting our brothers and sisters in the Asian American community, when eight innocent people – including six Asian American women – were murdered in Atlanta in an evil, racist act of violence. Let me be clear: we cannot allow this type of hatred to fester in our communities.
“This troubling rise in anti-Asian violence didn’t appear out of thin air — it’s been stoked by racist rhetoric and a disturbing legacy of anti-Asian sentiment in our politics and policy that have gone unchecked for far too long now. We must honor the victims of anti-Asian hate by reckoning with our past and taking action to change the course of our future.
“On this day of action and day of healing in honor of the victims of the Atlanta spa shootings, I join my colleagues in Congress and every single person across America who’s standing in solidarity with the Asian American community and confronting hatred wherever it exists. Together, we can — and we must — do better.”
