Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney Announces Senior Leaders Joining DCCC Team

Today, DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney announced the addition of senior leaders, including newly created positions focused on engaging communities of color.

Joining the team are Kristin Slevin as Chief of Staff, Veronica Yoo as Senior Advisor for AAPI Engagement, and Christale Spain as Senior Advisor for Black Engagement. They will join Gisel Aceves, who serves as the DCCC’s Political Director for Redistricting and Senior Advisor for Latino Engagement.

Aceves, Spain, and Yoo will work across the DCCC’s organizing, communications, paid media, research, and voter protection programs. Together, these hires will lead the DCCC’s effort to engage and expand support among some of the Democratic party’s most critical voting blocs.

DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney
“The Democratic Party has a deep bench of talented operatives and I’m overjoyed these new hires are with us in the fight to protect our House Democratic Majority. I know we’re building a team that knows how to win and reach voters across the democratic coalition that will power our victories next November.”

Kristin Slevin, Chief of Staff
“House Democrats have delivered results for the American people in the wake of a devastating pandemic, threats to our most fundamental human rights and unrelenting attempts to deny ballot access to our most vulnerable communities. I’m thrilled to join the DCCC and Chairman Maloney in the righteous fight to defend our House majority and build a team that reflects the values and faces of our country.”

Veronica Yoo, Senior Advisor for AAPI Engagement
“In 2020, record high turnout among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders helped to power critical Democratic victories and set the stage for House Democrats to deliver results for AAPI communities—from the American Rescue Plan to the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act. I’m ready to get to work alongside this battle-tested DCCC team as we build on that momentum in 2022 by investing early and engaging intentionally to persuade and mobilize AAPI voters, and to defend our Democratic House majority.”

Christale Spain, Senior Advisor for Black Engagement
“I’m excited to join the team at the DCCC in the fight to hold the House Majority. Engaging Black voters through meaningful outreach earlier this cycle will be vital to mobilizing our base in 2022.”

Kristin Slevin, Chief of Staff
Kristin Slevin joins the DCCC after spending the last several election cycles working for Senator Elizabeth Warren. She served as the Senator’s Deputy Director of National Scheduling during the 2020 presidential campaign and as the Deputy Organizing Director and then Director of Operations for Senator Warren’s re-election campaign in 2018. Most recently Kristin was Director of Scheduling and Advance for Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. She is excited to bring her years of principal management, commitment to building strong, diverse teams and borderline obsession with process and structure to the DCCC.
Veronica Yoo, Senior Advisor for AAPI Engagement
Veronica Yoo got her start in politics as a field organizer in Aurora, Colorado, and she’s been driven by a passion for meeting voters where they are ever since. During the 2020 cycle, she served as the DNC’s Director of AAPI Media and Western battleground press secretary, where she oversaw the media rollout of a multilingual ad campaign to reach one million AAPI voters. Prior to that, Veronica was the Nevada Press Secretary and Arizona Communications Director for Senator Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign. She is a proud alum of multiple competitive statewide races, Capitol Hill, and the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she was a speechwriter to the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon.
Christale Spain, Senior Advisor for Black Engagement
Christale ran the South Carolina Democratic party’s coordinated campaign effort in 2020. Before that, she led Senator Cory Booker’s SC campaign for President. She has been a Congressional District staffer for Congressman House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn. Christale has served as the Executive Director for the South Carolina Democratic Party and worked for Senator Bernie Sanders’s 2016 Presidential Campaign as the Political Outreach Director, later promoted to the Primary State Director.  Christale is also an alumnus of the CBCI Bootcamp.
Gisel Aceves, Political Director for Redistricting & Senior Advisor for Latino Engagement
Gisel Aceves was most recently Executive Director for CHC BOLD PAC.  A California native, Aceves began her political career a decade ago working on campaigns in Southern California.  Her on-the-ground experience spans U.S. House and Senate races where she has served in multiple senior capacities.  In the 2018 cycle, Aceves was tapped by EMILY’s List and later the DSCC to advise campaigns. There she helped lay the groundwork to take back the House and protect hard-fought statewide races across the country.
