When it’s politically convenient, Congressman Carlos Curbelo might pretend to support equal rights for LGBT Americans, but his actions in Washington have quickly revealed the truth: Curbelo stands on the wrong side of progress. Yesterday, Curbelo sided with his Republican leadership when they tabled the Student Non-Discrimination Act – legislation that would ensure students have access to a safe public education and a secure learning environment free from violence and intimidation.
“If South Florida families are looking for someone who stands for equality for all and wants to end discrimination against their students, they can skip right past Congressman Carlos Curbelo,” said Tyrone Gayle of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Congressman Curbelo would rather let discrimination continue in schools than stand up to the radical agenda pushed by his Republican leadership.”
