New reporting from the Oregon Capital Chronicle details the total collapse of Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s credibility after she promised to defend abortion rights in Oregon – then voted to strip abortion freedoms from servicemembers after massive pressure from dangerous anti-choice groups.
Chavez-DeRemer’s pledge in June to not support any legislation that would restrict using taxpayer funding for abortion triggered an immediate backlash from her anti-abortion allies:
“[Her] statement caused anti-abortion groups, including Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and CatholicVote, to criticize Chavez-DeRemer. The latter group pledged to support a primary challenge to Chavez-DeRemer, who represents a swing district with more registered Democrats than Republicans.”
Despite telling constituents that she would not support these attacks on Oregonians’ freedoms, Lori Chavez-DeRemer completely caved and put her extreme, out-of-state, anti-abortion allies before her constituents.
DCCC Spokesperson Jacob Haythorn:
“Lori Chavez-DeRemer must be held accountable for her reckless devotion to extreme, anti-choice groups who will stop at nothing to impose a dangerous, national abortion ban. Oregonians want leaders who stand up for them, not play politics with their fundamental rights.”
