Indicted GOP Congressman Loans His Campaign $500K
For the second quarter in a row, Congressman Chris Collins (R- Indicted) is struggling to keep his re-election bid afloat.
Newly released FEC reports show that the indicted Congressman, who failed to raise a single dollar from human beings in Q1, has now loaned himself half a million in his fight to hold his seat.
Voters have nearly abandoned the Congressman leaving him to also rely heavily on Washington insiders and special-interest groups for support.
Some of his top donors included the political arm of the Tuesday Group, the “moderate” wing of the House Republican caucus. The group reaffirmed their support for Collins earlier this year despite his looming court case.
Collins raised just over $9,000 this quarter which is just $4,000 more than he raised during the first three months of the year.
Not a good sign for a man facing the toughest primary of his career.
“After raising zero dollars from a single human being in the first quarter of the year, Criminal Caucus Chairman, Chris Collins has loaned himself half a million dollars to keep his failing campaign afloat,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “It’s clear Collins is prepping for a nasty primary. We wish him the best of luck.”
Chris Collins was added to the DCCC’s Republican Retirement Watch List earlier this year.
