CLASSIFIEDS: CO Congressman Seeks Backbone (IMAGE)

Coffman voted against closing terror suspect gun loophole, refused to directly denounce Trump, Rep. JoAnn Windholz, and Douglas County GOP after vile comments

“Congressman Coffman’s refusal to directly denounce Trump for his plan to ban all Muslims and his refusal to call out the vile rhetoric of his fellow Republicans blaming Planned Parenthood for three tragic murders is disturbing,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “Coloradans deserve a representative with some backbone.”

First, Coffman refused to directly denounce his own local Republican Party when they Tweeted that “Abortionists and Planned Parenthood Shooter Are Just Two sides Of The Same Coin.”

Second, Coffman wouldn’t call for Rep. JoAnn Windholz to apologize or resign (even though she represents a portion of the 6th District) after she blamed Planned Parenthood for the murder of a mother, veteran, and police officer. The Denver Post and Aurora Sentinel wrote appropriately scathing editorials about her comments.

Third, Congressman Coffman refused to denounce Donald Trump after he proposed banning all Muslims from entering the United States. This unconstitutional and morally bankrupt statement received widespread and swift rebuke from Colorado Republicans – but not Coffman.

Fourth, Coffman blew off a vote (because he was on CNN) to bring up consideration of a bill to close the terror suspect loophole. He eventually started showing up and voted multiple times to block the bill. Flippantly, Coffman called this a “partisan wedge issue,” which indicates that he has no idea the bill was sponsored by a Republican and recently received more bipartisan support.

Quotes of the Week:

“Whereas a cadre of his fellow Republicans on the congressional delegation had plenty of nasty things to say about the poll-leading presidential candidate, Coffman observed Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment in speaking no direct ill of the Donald nor his plan to ban all Muslims from entering the country.”

– Aurora Sentinel Editorial [12/09/15]

“And Democrats seized on Coffman’s Tuesday statement reacting to Trump, saying it didn’t go far enough…His original statement did not mention Trump.”

Roll Call [12/10/15]

“Using a lot of words to say a lot of nothing is a pretty standard approach for Coffman — on any issue — but there’s no reason for him to refuse to condemn Trump unless he just flat-out agrees with the Republican Presidential frontrunner. With so many other Republicans coming out in force against Trump, Coffman has plenty of cover to say whatever he wants. He. Just. Doesn’t.”
